A Government Hospital

Karin Grech Hospital

So, after so long what were my options?

My other Guardian Angel, Dr Bini suggested my best option was to go to a recovery ward which offered an intense mix of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

So that’s what I did!

That worked for a while, the speech therapist didn’t think it would work out but my speech vastly improved.

Other things improved too but I couldn’t see them cuz they were too close to home. It was encouraging to see there was a little bit of a chance after so long… in fact I’m waiting for another rehab place to open (funnily enough I was the founder’s first manager about 14 years ago)

But then in the meantime something changed.

I don’t know if it was due to the meds, boredom or what. I just wanted to sleep to forget. If it wasn’t for my daughter, my life was not worth living.

But did that mean giving up? I was sat around waiting for the universe to deliver a miracle, but wasn’t me being alive the miracle?

That’s when I realised I was depressed. I’d rejected anti-depressants for 4 years, but I was tired of fighting.
